The Lord Lieutenant’s Fund for Youth – Young and Talented is very proud that the fund supported Rio 2016 medalists Helen Glover and Melissa Reid at the beginning of their careers.

Helen Glover, ranked the number 1 female rower in the world since 2015, a two-time Olympic champion and triple World champion, received support towards travelling and competition entry costs in 2009.

Helen said “I am so grateful to people at home in Cornwall for all the support they have given me over the years and the Lord Lieutenant’s Fund for believing in me and awarding a grant which gave me such a start at the beginning of my rowing career.”

Melissa Reid, a former world champion and European silver medalist and Bronze medal winner of the first ever Para-triathlon at a Paralympic Games at Rio 2016, received funding towards travelling and accommodation costs in 2013.

Melissa said “The grant made a huge difference to me and my family as they are the ones helping me achieve my end goal of going to Rio. It is an expensive hobby but I love what I’m doing and want to make my country proud”.

Melissa and Helen have definitely made the country including Cornwall and the Lord Lieutenant’s Fund for Youth proud.
