LLFFY supported athlete becomes South West Champion

Grace Brock, a 14 year old runner from Penzance, received £790 from The Lord Lieutenant Fund for Youth in September 2015 towards equipment, travel and accommodation for training sessions. Grace is 11th in the UK at 3000m, 1st in the South West and is on the all-time rankings. Grace competes for school, club and county teams and also volunteers at Cornwall Athletic Club. Her aim is to become a successful senior athlete and represent GB internationally and subsequently become a running coach helping other young aspiring athletes.

Grace said “The recognition The Lord Lieutenant Fund for Youth has motivated me to do well in recent races and exceed my targets. After becoming under 15 cross country County Champion in November, (I was runner up in 2014) I was aiming for a top 6 position at the South West Championships, but was very happy to become south west champion on the 20th December. I will now be representing the South West at the London Mini marathon. I am now looking forward to the Southern and National inter counties cross country championships later in the season and the track season in the summer.”

The Lord Lieutenant’s Fund for Youth – Young and Talented Cornwall awarded eight talented young people with a total of £4,640 in September. The next deadline for applications is on the 24th of February 2016.
