We are deeply saddened that Lady Mary Holborow DCVO has passed away. She will be greatly missed by us all.
In 2005 Lady Mary, then Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, and Vice Lord Lieutenant Michael Galsworthy, launched the Lord Lieutenant’s Fund for Youth (LLFY). LLFY was designed to inspire and support exceptional ability in Cornwall’s young and to help overcome barriers to the achievement of exceptional success.
The Fund began grant-making in 2006 and since then has invested £196,000 to support 261 exceptionally gifted and talented people in Cornwall. The Fund continues to flourish, now under the stewardship of current Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Colonel Edward Bolitho OBE. In 2016 LLFY awarded £11,750 to 16 talented young people.
Colonel Bolitho said “Along with her Vice Lord Lieutenant, Michael Galsworthy, Lady Mary was the inspiration for and driving force behind the establishment of the Lord Lieutenant’s Fund for Youth. As a result, over the past 11 years, more than 200 incredibly talented young people have benefitted from grants that have enabled them achieve even greater success and fulfil their extraordinary potential. This Fund will be a wonderful and enduring legacy to a very remarkable person.”
Lady Mary was Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall for 17 years and a passionate supporter of charities in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
